RAL Space played a major role in developing the control system for the two 8 m Gemini (link opens in a new window) astronomy telescopes operating in Hawaii and Chile. Current projects include the 2 x 8 m Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona, the 4 m Advanced Technology Solar Telescope on Maui, the 8 m Large Synoptic Survey Telescope in Chile and the VISTA (link opens in a new window) 4 m infrared survey telescope at ESO's Cerro Paranal observatory in Chile.

We have also played a leading role in the prototype 12 m Atacama Light Millimetre Array) ALMA telescopes, and are participating in the construction of the ALMA project located in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile. RAL is also involved in the baseline calibration of the ESO Very Large Telescope (link opens in a new window) Interferometer in Chile.
