The Science and Technology Facilities Council congratulates our colleagues STFC Board member Professor Karen Holford and STFC Chief Executive Dr Brian Bowsher on being honoured in the New Year Honours List 2018.
STFC Board member Professor Karen Holford has been awarded the CBE for services to Engineering and the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering and STFC Chief Executive Dr Brian Bowsher has been made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contribution to national and international metrology.
In addition former astronaut Ms Helen Patricia Sharman, O.B.E. has been awarded the Order of Saint Michael and St George CMG for services to Science and Technology Educational Outreach.
Other notable honours have been given to:
Professor Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor, University of Liverpool, who has been made a Dame for services to Higher Education and Equality.
Dr. William Stirling, lately Director General, European Synchrontron Radiation Facility and lately Director Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France is awarded a C.M.G. for services to British science and international science collaboration.
Professor Michele Dougherty, Professor of Space Physics at Imperial College London has been awarded a C.B.E. for services to UK Physical Science Research. She was a key member of the team involved in the STFC supported Cassini space mission to Saturn.
There was also a C.B.E. for Professor Philip Nelson, Chief Executive Officer, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Chair, Research Councils UK for services to UK Engineering and Science.
