STFC, together with CERN, organised the third High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL‐LHC) industry day to inform industry of the upcoming opportunities as part of the HL‐LHC upgrade. The HL-LHC Project is a major upgrade to the accelerator complex to improve the performance of the LHC in order to increase the potential for discoveries after 2025. The upgrade will span a 10 year period and CERN have estimated the total cost of the project to be ~950M CHF (~£765M). CERN expect two thirds of the value to be awarded as contracts to industry, with the remaining third as in‐kind contributions and for hiring the additional personnel required.

At the event companies from across all CERN member states met with HL-LHC project engineers and learnt about the upcoming challenges and future procurement opportunities. A total of 200 delegates attended the event with 141 delegates from industry. There were representatives from other international organisations including the ILL, ESO and ESS also in attendance at the event.

On the Monday morning delegates received presentations from a number of CERN technical staff from the different work packages and also from the Head of the CERN Procurement team. In the afternoon the one-to-one meetings began and they continued on the Tuesday morning. These meetings were the big focus of the event, companies were given the opportunity to meet the CERN technical engineers and procurement officers and also to business to business meetings were arranged.

The HiLumi event finished at 12.00 on Tuesday and in the afternoon STFC hosted a site visit to the Daresbury Laboratory for 60 delegates from the event. The visit incorporated a networking lunch, presentations about the site and a selection of tours.

You can access the presentations for the event on the 3rd HiLumi Industry Day webpage by selecting the specific presentations on the event timetable. There are details of the attendees and future price enquires available on this page.
