Dr Worswick is the non-executive chairman of Cobalt Light Systems Ltd, a spin-out company from STFC’s Central Laser Facility. The company exploits ground-breaking laser technology in products for the pharmaceutical industry and security applications.
Dr Worswick has worked in both the private and public sectors. In 1992 he was appointed Government Chemist and Chief Executive of the Laboratory of the Government Chemist. Following the decision to privatise the Laboratory, he led a management buy-out in 1996. As Chief Executive and later Deputy Chairman, he developed LGC into a highly successful international science-based company. He retired from LGC in 2008.
Following the serious illness of their eldest daughter Helen, Dr Worswick and his wife were instrumental in founding Helen House, the first hospice for children in the UK.
