  • We've tried to make the on-line Research Grant Handbook easy to use and navigate. To help you find the information you're after, the handbook contains the following features:

  • Navigation

Main sections are listed in the left-hand column on the page; click on a section to go there. When you are in a section the right hand-column contains a list of sub-sections, which can be accessed by clicking on the links. You can page through sections using the right/left arrows on the (blue) section title bar, or the 'Previous section' and 'Next section' links at the foot of the sub-section content.

The contents page also lists the handbook sections.

Click on the Handook logo at the top of the page to return to the the main research grant pages.

The 'Home' at the top of right-hand column will take you to the handbook introduction.

  • Quick Links

The right-hand column of each page contains several navigation options:

    • Contents: lists thehandbook sections
    • Index: takes you to the full index listing
    • Go to: if you know the section/sub-section number you want to go to, select the number from the drop-down list and click the 'Go' button to go directly to that (sub) section
    • PDFs: displays a list of PDF versions of the handbook sections, which you can then download
      In the 'Help' section:

    • Using the Handbook: guidance on using the handbook
    • Handbook Change Log: a list of updates handbook with date effective
    • Contacts: STFC contact points for further help/guidance, or to make comments about the handbook

      In the 'Je-S' section:

    • Je-S Login: takes you to the Je-S System login page
    • About Je-S: takes you to the Je-S System help and guidance page

Links to the index, PDFs and help pages are duplicated at the top of the page for ease of reference

  • Index

The handbook has been fully indexed to allow for quick reference. The index presents phrases in alphabetical order with links to corresponding relevant sections. An A-Z list at the top of the index allows you to jump to initial letters. Click the orange arrow next to letters to return to the top of the page.

  • Searching

Use the search facility (at the top right of every page) to look for key words and phrases. Use the '*' wild card to look for variations around a word. Examples (note that you do not have to type the inverted commas around your phrase):

    • 'facility' will find all subsections containing the word 'facility'
    • 'facility co-ordinator' will match the exact phrase 'facility co-ordinator'
    • 'facil*' will find 'facility', 'facilities', 'facilitate' and so on

  • Paragraph numbering

All sections and sub-sections are numbered. Within (sub)sections, paragraphs are also numbered to allow precise referencing, although by default these numbers are not shown to improve page clarity. If you would like to see paragraph numbers, click the 'show paragraph numbers' option (example with numbers). If you have numbers displayed, click the 'hide paragraph numbers' option to hide them (example without numbers).
