Applications from UK Nuclear Physics Research

Physicist at work

Nuclear Physics is the science concerned with understanding the structure and properties of the nucleus of the atom - the composition of our physical world at the most basic level. In the UK, over 50 academics are engaged in basic research in nuclear physics based at a number of UK universities and the STFC Daresbury Laboratory

A recent review of UK nuclear physics by the Institute of Physics can be found here.

In the course of the work undertaken by UK nuclear physicists, new detector technologies are developed along with state-of-the-art instrumentation. Many of these technologies have been applied by UK nuclear physicists to a wide range of societal needs from medical imaging to homeland security, and the needs of the nuclear industry. This website showcases applications which have come out of basic nuclear physics research.

This website is intended to be a means for industrialists to locate UK nuclear physicists with relevant skills and expertise for possible collaboration.

The Event Programme for the IOP Nuclear Physics Technology Showcase in September 2013 is now on-line, and this will allow you to quickly access presentations from the day. The event programme, along with the conference photograph, is also available via the Past Events page.
