The drill-down screens allow you to choose an initial selection of data, and then 'drill down' into it revealing increasingly more detail. Summary lists show the number and value of grants grouped by the current selection; grants lists show details of individual grants, including title, principal investigator, value, duration and abstract.
The menu bar towards the top right of the screen allows you to choose the initial selection of data. The available options are:
Grant and fellowship schemes
STFC funds grants under a number of schemes. To see funding for a specific scheme select the item of interest from the drop-down selection box beneath the main menu bar and click the 'go' button. This feature will not work if your browser has JavaScript disabled
Information about people
When you reach the list of individual grants, you can click on the principal investigators name to see all similar support for that person ie support according to your initial grouping. To see all support for person (whether it matches the current grouping or not), you should choose the 'person' option from the main menu.
Sorting
The data can be sorted in a number of ways by clicking on the 'up' and 'down' arrows next to the column headings.
Regions
Regional support is also displayed with a map on which you can click to select the area of interest. Individual region maps show selected places which have STFC support and for which there exists a summary of some of the research being carried out there (displayed by clicking on place name).
Navigating backwards
As you drill down, the path you have followed is displayed at the top of the list. You can return to any previous level by clicking on the display. For example if you drill down through institution to department, then to the grants list, and then choose grants for that person, the display will look like this:
> institution name > department name > person name
from here, clicking on the person name will take you back to the grants list, on the department name to the department summary, and on the institution name to the institution summary.
Grants on the web displays data for STFC grants and fellowships which were current at the time the database was last updated. The data is refreshed fortnightly. The definition of current grants used includes only those grants for which STFC has been formally notified that they have started and which have not passed their end date. It excludes, therefore, grants which have been awarded to an HEI but have not been started. Grants which are under revision are also excluded.
The monetary values shown are the announced grant totals issued to the host institution at the time of the award.
