Doctoral Training Partnerships

The majority of STFC studentship support will be awarded as Doctoral Training Partnerships (formerly known as quota studentships) to departments using an algorithm process.

The Education, Training and Careers Committee has now concluded its review of the studentship algorithm and a summary of the changes that have been made can be found below. Departments will be informed of their studentship allocation for 2017 in December 2016.

Studentship Algorithm Revision - July 2016

220 studentships are allocated per year in the form of biennial Training Grants (TGs). TGs are awarded under Terms and Conditions that have been agreed cross Council.

Further information on TGs can also be found in the TG Frequently Asked Questions document also available on the STFC webpage. All studentships funded from the TG are also subject to the terms and conditions set out in this document.

STFC Doctoral Training Partnerships enable promising scientists and engineers to continue training beyond a first degree. All studentship projects supported through STFC funding must fall within STFC remit. Details of the areas of science covered by STFC are available on the STFC website.
