Standards roadmap to global grid interoperability by 2020
STFC e-Science hosted a two day international workshop funded by the EU project Challengers to draft a roadmap for standardisation that would lead to an interoperable global computing grid by 2020.
The workshop was attended by 35 invited experts from Europe and the USA who debated scenarios of possible technologies and influences on them, business applications and the environment to produce a roadmap showing which technologies need to be standardised, by when, in order to achieve the interoperability of grids around the world for both academia and commercial use. The workshop was held in St Hilda's College, Oxford where the experts slept, eat and worked in isolation from phones, e-mail and television during the workshop to focus their attention on the job at hand.
The report (PDF - link opens in a new window) resulting from the workshop will be used by the European Commission in planning future funding for research in ICT.
