Eduroam

Eduroam

STFC offers a wireless network service throughout the Daresbury Laboratory and in many locations across the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, including the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), Ridgeway House and the Cosener's House in nearby Abingdon.

All use of STFC's computer networks is subject to the STFC ICT Acceptable Use Policy. Use of eduroam is additionally subject to the Janet eduroam(UK) policy (link opens in a new window).

STFC participates in eduroam (link opens in a new window), the research and education community's international roaming access service. eduroam allows users from participating organisations to access visitor networks at other participating organisations with the username and password they use at their home institution.

A list of participating UK organisations (link opens in a new window) is maintained by Janet (link opens in a new window).

Networking for Visitors

Eduroam is available to visitors to the Daresbury and Rutherford Appleton Laboratories. Non-eduroam visitors may use the STFC-Guest and STFC-Facilities-Users networks, with access arranged through the visitor's host or Facility User Office.

Visitors are strongly recommended to arrange use of eduroam with their home organisation before visiting STFC.

STFC offers very limited eduroam technical support to visitors. Where possible visitors should first contact their home institution, as this is where the decision on allowing or withholding eduroam access is made. Should assistance from STFC be required, this should be arranged through the visitor's host or Facility User Office.

Please note that eduroam is currently not available within the Diamond Light Source, where separate visitor networking arrangements exist.

Eduroam for Staff

Eduroam is available to all STFC, Diamond Light Source and RCaH staff. They may use it at the Daresbury and Rutherford Appleton Laboratories and at other participating organisations. A list of participating UK organisations (link opens in a new window) is maintained by Janet (link opens in a new window).

STFC, DLS and RCaH staff must ensure that their eduroam configuration is working correctly at an STFC site before visiting other eduroam enabled organisations.

Further information and setup instructions are available via CICT Intranet pages (link opens in a new window), which are not publicly available.

Staff experiencing eduroam issues while travelling may contact STFC Network Support.
