Muon Ionisation Cooling

MICE stands for the Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment and is a technology demonstrator for one of the components of a neutrino factory. For more information about the MICE experiment visit the MICE website (link opens in a new window).

The Cryogenics and Magnetics group is involved in several aspects of the MICE experiment:

  • Development of the cryogenic system
  • Procurement of the Absorber and Focus Coil Module (with Oxford University)
  • Development and manufacture of the hydrogen delivery system
  • Installation and commissioning of the decay solenoid and refrigerator
