Neutron and Muon User Meeting 2008
18 - 19 March 2008 at the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus Conference Centre
About the meeting
The 2008 Neutron and Muon User Meeting provides a forum for users of UK-supported neutron and muon sources (ILL and ISIS) to discuss the current status and future directions of these research centres.
The meeting provides a valuable opportunity for researchers and PhD students to share recent results with others in the UK neutron and muon user community.

Programme
The scientific theme for NMUM 2008 is "Complementarity of neutrons and photons" and plenary lecturers will give an in-depth perspective for different science areas. There will be updates on ISIS, ILL and the ESS initiative. The current status and future directions of neutron and muon research will be explored in syndicate groups and through a panel discussion.
Breakout groups organised by subject will meet several times during the meeting:
- Structure (Coordinator: Chick Wilson, University of Glasgow)
- Engineering (Coordinator: Sarah Hainsworth, University of Leicester)
- Magnetism & superconductivity (Coordinator: Sue Kilcoyne, University of Salford)
- Soft matter & biology (Coordinator: Jayne Lawrence, King's College London)
B T M Willis Prize for Neutron Scattering
The winner of this prestigious prize will be announced at the meeting and the winner will give a plenary lecture.
The prize is named in honour of the founding chairman of the Neutron Scattering Group, Professor B T M Willis, and is awarded for outstanding neutron scattering science. It is awarded by The Neutron Scattering Group of The Institute of Physics and the Faraday Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Poster Session
A poster session will enable recent results to be presented and prizes will be awarded for the best research. Poster titles must be listed in advance when registering for the meeting.
Poster boards will accept a maximum size of A0 (841 × 1189 mm) in portrait orientation.
Meeting venue
The meeting will take place at the Jubilee Campus of the University of Nottingham. Accommodation will be in ensuite rooms at the conference centre. Accommodation and travel costs for the meeting are free to UK academic researchers and PhD students.
