The e-infrastructure for research

In collaboration with the other Research Councils (link opens in a new window) and JISC (link opens in a new window), the Science and Technology Facilities Council aims to provide an e-infrastructure to support the complete research lifecycle for users of its facilities from proposal preparation through access to past data, experimental simulation, data collection and analysis, to publication and data curation.

Online services for collaboration and grant preparation

• STFC e-publications archive (link opens in a new window) (ePubs), records the scientific output of the Chilbolton, Daresbury, and Rutherford Appleton Laboratories in the form of Journal Articles, Conference Papers, Technical Reports, ePrints, Theses and Books

• The Diamond Data Portal provides access to data collected in experiments run on the Diamond synchrotron

• The UK Solar System Data Centre (UKSSDC) binds the substantial Solar System Science data resources of the UK into a cohesive unit
  
  
• The British Atmospheric Data Centre (link opens in a new window) (BADC) assists UK atmospheric researchers to locate, access and interpret atmospheric data and to ensure the long-term integrity of atmospheric data produced by NERC projects

Online access to computing resources

• The UK National Grid Service (link opens in a new window) provides access for UK researchers to computational and data based resources. The NGS is free to all those in the UK academic community
