Materials - Key Stage 4

Introduction

In the first of the key Stage 4 lessons, It's small, small world, some of the myths and realities of very small structures and new materials are explored. Starting with the new forms of carbon, buckyballs and nanotubes, new applications illustrate the exciting possibilities for this branch of science which crosses the boundaries of physics, chemistry and biology.

The modern world relies heavily on oil. In the second lesson, Whose land is it anyway? the implications of that reliance are explored in terms of the social, economic and environmental effects of drilling for oil.
