Microwave callibration loads
Millimetre wave radiometers used for atmospheric remote sensing typically require at least one onboard blackbody target for calibration. With current instruments requiring an absolute radiometric accuracy of <0.5 K, these targets must have high emissivity (>0.9995) and have a stable and well known temperature.
RAL have developed low profile pyramidal targets with low temperature gradients and high emissivity using space compatitble materials suitable for use at ambient and cryogenic temperatures. Absorber material and target geometry can be customised to suit the particular application and environment.
