The STFC organises a wide range of scientific lectures and events, ranging from the highly specialised and technical, to hands-on learning for schools.

General information

Most events listed here are open to everyone, but admission is by prior registration with the event organiser. See the individual listings for a guide on suitability for different age groups.

Open afternoons

Open afternoon visits offer an exciting opportunity to find out more about some of the amazing science, engineering and technology currently taking place at the STFC. It is a chance to see the world-leading facilities and talk to scientists and engineers. Each afternoon focuses on one or two of the main areas of research. The recommended age is 16 and over.

Lectures

Please note that for the comfort and enjoyment of the audience, suggested age guidelines are shown for each lecture. Children under 16 must be accompanied by, and sit with, a responsible adult. Food and drinks are not allowed in the Lecture Theatres.
