University of Sheffield

Summary

The University of Sheffield was formed from a merger of three former institutions in 1897. A member of the Russell Group, Sheffield is one of six original ‘Red brick’ universities. Research at Sheffield aims to make an impact both in the UK and the wider world, with over 90% of its research being internationally recognised and in many cases world-leading. The university has five previous Nobel Prize winners associated with it across its Faculty of Science.
 
STFC works extensively with the University of Sheffield, particularly in the areas of physics and astronomy.
