Advisory Panel for Science in Society (APSiS)

The Panel provides advice to the Council and the executive on strategy, policies and programme balance for public engagement with STFC's science and technology; and to provide new ideas for programme development.

The SiS programme addresses STFC public accountability; support for the national Science and Innovation agenda (and in particular the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) agenda); and regional education and skills needs. The main target audiences are the media, science-inclined public, teachers and young people, opinion-formers, and new audiences not traditionally engaged with STFC science. The programme operates under four main strategic objectives, which are to:-

  1. stimulate and respond to public interest in research developments;

  2. link STFC science and technology with schools and young people to support the national STEM agenda;

  3. encourage and support researchers who engage with STFC in their public engagement work;

  4. capitalise on the Laboratories/Campuses as excellent technical sites that have delivery programmes and partnerships for regional STEM and skills activities.
