Research programme planning

The definition and delivery of the Science and Technology Facilities Council programme is aided by a range of advisory, peer-review, co-ordinating, steering and management committees. Each has specific terms of reference and a membership decided in consultation with the community, in most cases following a call for nominations.

There are three top-level committees that provide advice to the Council body and Executive on all aspects of the Council’s science and technology programme. They are the:

Together, these three bodies are responsible for advising on major investment decisions and on long term strategies and priorities, taking advice, as required, from a range of routes. In particular, they are advised by the Projects Peer-Review Panel (PPRP) which assesses proposals for all major new capital projects, and related technology research and develoment  for the peer-review of research grant applications by the Particle Physics Grants Peer-Review Panel (PPGP), the Astronomy Grants Panel (AGP) and the Nuclear Physics Grants Panel (NPGP).
