Procedures for dealing with cross-disciplinary proposals within STFC's remit
Anyone about to submit a proposal for research (for example in astroparticle physics or gravitational physics) which they suspect may straddle or fall between the remits of the two STFC subject committees is asked to submit a brief (1-2 pages) outline of the proposal, in advance, so that they can be advised on where best to direct their proposal.
The Executive will decide whether the proposal should be assessed by the AGP (Astronomy Grants Panel), the PPGP (Particle Physics Grants Panel), the NPGP (Nuclear Physics Grants Panel) or an ad-hoc panel. Where appropriate, the panels may be augmented by specialist referees or members (including international expertise).
Advice may also be sought from the panels on how the cost of successful projects should be attributed within the STFC science programme.
