This is an opportunity for the particle physics community to provide input for a roadmap describing the current and future research opportunities in particle physics. information (link opens in a new window) about the PAAP and links to the other advisory panels within the UK and internationally.

We also have prepared a web-based questionnaire (link opens in a new window).

This is designed to gather input from the community which will be incorporated into our report to PPAN in September. We would greatly appreciate your participation.

Finally, we are planning a community meeting for early to mid September to obtain feedback before presenting an updated status report and strategy to PPAN.

4. STFC Swindon Office - new Head of Particle and Nuclear Physics


We are pleased to announce that Tony Medland has been appointed as the new Head of Particle and Nuclear Physics, replacing Janet Seed, from 13 July 2009. Tony's contact details are 01793 442087. All other responsibilities within the Swindon team remain the same.

5. NESTA Famelab winner

Congratulations to Tom Whyntie, an Imperial PhD student working at CERN, on winning the NESTA FameLab competition. Tom captivated the audience at the Cheltenham Science Festival and the judges by explaining how the Large Hadron Collider finding... nothing ...could be a scientific revolution. Tom came away with the giant cheque for £10,000 and two appearances on Channel 4.
