Funding opportunities
STFC offers a range of funding opportunities depending on the stage of technology development.
Funding for “Blue-skies” R&D for astronomy, particle physics and nuclear physics is offered through the consolidated research grants in these areas. For further information, please consult the relevant programme managers for these grants.
The Project Research and Development (PRD) scheme is intended to develop the capabilities needed to underpin UK science and technology leadership in future Science and Technology Facility Council projects and gives industry the opportunity, in collaboration with approved research organisations, to apply directly to the Research Councils for funding for research and development.
The world leading technology and expertise which are developed as a result of STFC funded research have the potential to be used to solve challenges that come from beyond the confines of the STFC funded communities. The ingenious use of this specialised knowledge can bring immense benefit to the UK society and its economy. STFC offers a range of innovation support, including specific support to address solutions to global challenges through the Futures Programme.
