Second international school for linear colliders

We are pleased to announce that the second accelerator school dedicated to linear colliders will be held from 1-10 October 2007 at Ettore Majorana Center, Erice (Sicily), Italy under the auspices of the GDE, ILCSC and ICFA Beam Dynamics Panel. Detailed information can be found online (link opens in a new window)|.

The school will take a maximum of 70 students from around the world. Prospective Students should apply for financial support through their departments as normal.

Big bang celebrating the world's biggest physics experiment

On the 3rd of April this Large Hadron Collider (LHC)-based exhibit in the Antenna Gallery of the Science Museum was opened to the public along with a supporting website (link opens in a new window)|.

Cartoon book

A 16 page cartoon style booklet, aimed at sixth formers/teachers, and describing some of the big questions the LHC will help us address, is in the final stages of editing. We expect this to be printed in April/early May 2007.

BA festival

In partnership with the Physics and Astronomy section of the BA, Science and Technology Facilities Council ("the Council") will be managing a day (14th Sept) of lectures on the LHC at the BA Festival 2007 (York, 9 – 16th September). The lectures will target the general public and schools.

Teachers visit CERN

The Regional Science Learning Centres are interested in CPD courses and talks for teachers on the LHC. As a first step in exploiting this opportunity a partnership between the Council, CERN and two Regional Science Learning Centres organised for 40 teachers to visit CERN on the 10-11th April 2007 as part of a programme that includes pre- and post-visit work in the UK.

IoP schools lecture

The IoP has recently issued a call for applications to deliver the 2008 IoP schools and colleges physics lecture. The IoP is particularly interested in applications that focus on the LHC and associated physics. Further details are available from:
