New Video Reveals the James Webb Space telescope MIRI detectors

NASA has released a short movie about the detectors for the JWST Mid Infrared Instrument (link opens in a new window) (MIRI). The video is part of an on-going series called "Behind the Webb" about the James Webb Space Telescope, and explains the technically challenging work at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to develop the detectors as well as some of the exciting science MIRI will be able to do.

STFC is leading the European development of the MIRI Optical System into which these highly sensitive detectors will be integrated next year.

"The MIRI detectors will be the "eyes" of the instrument, capturing what it sees. The video is a good introduction to how this key part of the MIRI instrument will work" said Gillian Wright, the European Principal Investigator.
