Constellation Technologies and Viglen in New Partnership

Constellation Technologies, the developer of cloud computing solutions and services for sectors including pharmaceuticals, financial services and engineering, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Viglen Ltd, the innovative manufacturer of IT hardware and software. This is the first such agreement that Constellation Technologies has entered into with a commercial organisation, and signals a new commercial push for the company.

The parties will co-operate in marketing and business development activities to bring the advantages of the technology to the attention of a wider range of potential end users in companies and academia. At the same time, under the arrangement with Viglen, Constellation Technologies will have access to a sophisticated equipment test bed, and this is expected to accelerate the rate at which applications can be developed.

Cloud computing is attracting a lot of interest as a way of providing access to enormous computing power or storage by using distributed computing resources over the Internet. It also offers the opportunity to reduce IT costs significantly.

Viglen and Constellation Technologies are building on their existing relationship, Viglen having already supplied equipment to the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) from which Constellation Technologies has spun out after developing innovative grid computing approaches funded by STFC.

Viglen has been operating for over 30 years, and partners with world leading IT corporations including Microsoft, Apple, Intel and Cisco. It is a major solutions supplier to the corporate, education and public sectors and supplies IT hardware, software and technical support to two thirds of Britain’s universities.

Bordan Tkachuk, CEO at Viglen said: “I am delighted with the new partnership between Constellation and Viglen. We have worked with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on some innovative projects in recent years and I look forward to the opportunity to work with their spin out, Constellation Technologies on exciting cutting edge projects in the future."

Nick Trigg, CEO of Constellation, added: “This relationship will be very good for both partners. Cloud computing is growing rapidly and Viglen’s hardware expertise coupled with Constellation’s cloud software will enable both companies to take advantage of this market growth.”

The announcement of this MoU comes hot on the heels of a similar agreement between Constellation Technologies and the University of Cambridge eScience Centre, announced (link opens in a new window) in May.
