Sensors Knowledge Transfer Network
Science and Technology Facilities Council, the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) (link opens in a new window), and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) (link opens in a new window) have linked with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) (link opens in a new window) to become major sponsors and partners of the Sensors Knowledge Transfer Network (Sensors KTN) (link opens in a new window).
This sponsorship allows the two Research Councils and UKAEA to play a key role in the KTN, which is the national sensing network; uniting the talent and expertise of the whole of the UKs sensing community, from academics and large industries, to small businesses, research councils, and government departments.
The move recognises and cements the strategic importance of Advanced Instrumentation and Research Facilities to the UK economy, with additional resources now being dedicated to the formation of Special Interest Groups in these areas.
The Advanced Instrumentation Special Interest Group (AISIG) (link opens in a new window) will establish a UK community in the instrumentation sector and encourage UK industry and academics to develop innovative technologies, interact throughout the supply chain, and compete on the world stage.
The Research Facilities Special Interest Group (RFSIG) (link opens in a new window) will improve UK industry engagement with scientific Research Facilities around the world in terms of both supply opportunity and knowledge transfer activity.
The Sensors KTN is managed on behalf of DTI by the National Physical Laboratory (link opens in a new window) and Qi3 (link opens in a new window). In addition to the funding partners mentioned above the Sensors KTN also has the support of UK Trade & Investment (link opens in a new window), Gambica (link opens in a new window), the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) (link opens in a new window), and the Institute of Physics (IoP) (link opens in a new window).
An online community directory (link opens in a new window) to support these new SIGs is being established. Further information is available at: + 44 (0)1223 422406 or by email.
About Knowledge Transfer Networks
Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) are national forums designed to stimulate innovation in the UK's key technology sectors by promoting collaboration, best practice and knowledge sharing between industry and academia. By encouraging partnerships and teamwork, KTNs aim to position the UK as the innovation engine for Europe. KTNs are a DTI Business Support Solution delivered through the Technology Programme.
