Fellowship schemes
STFC operates two main fellowships schemes for researchers who do not yet have a permanent academic position:
STFC no longer operates a Senior Research Fellowships scheme for permanent academics. The rules and regulations governing existing Senior Research Fellowship awards are available upon request from STFC.
Independent reviewers
STFC will be using electronic peer review for fellowship applications. Please read our Frequently Asked Questions (PDF - 49kB - link opens in a new window) for guidance using Je-S Peer Review. If you have been asked to write an independent review for an STFC Fellowship, please read our guidance notes (PDF - 24kB - link opens in a new window) and follow the link through Je-S to complete the review form.

Applicants
Applicants may apply to only one of the two schemes described above and, in addition, only one application to one Institution will be accepted. Applications should be submitted using the Je-S System (link opens in a new window).
Applications are particularly welcome from those seeking to resume a research career following a period of absence from active research. (Returners).
Applicants are advised to seek the backing of their proposed host department several weeks in advance of the closing date. STFC has introduced a limit on the number of applications that each department may submit, therefore early contact between applicants and host institutions is essential.
Departments will not be expected to exceed their STFC application limit.
The closing date for STFC Postdoctoral and Advanced Fellowships is 4:00pm 15 October 2009. The fellowship application form is available for submission via the Je-S system (link opens in a new window).
