Fellowship opportunities
Fellowship opportunities in Astronomy, Solar and Planetary Science, Particle Physics, Particle Astrophysics, Nuclear Physics, Development of STFC Neutron, Laser and Synchrotron Facilities within the UK
STFC operates an advanced fellowship scheme for researchers who do not have a permanent academic position or a permanent research position.
The postdoctoral fellowship scheme will not operate from the 2010/2011 round. See STFC's announcement on support for early career researchers.
Current STFC Postdoctoral Fellows can find here the rules and regulations (PDF - 91kB - link opens in a new window) governing their awards.
STFC no longer operates a Senior Research Fellowships scheme for permanent academics. The rules and regulations governing existing Senior Research Fellowship awards are available upon request from STFC.
STFC operates a Return to Research Bursary scheme for those seeking to resume an academic research career after a break. Up to six bursaries a year are available to support the development of a proposal suitable for submission to the STFC Fellowship scheme.
Independent reviewers
STFC will be using electronic peer review for fellowship applications. Please read our Frequently Asked Questions (PDF - 49kB - link opens in a new window) for guidance using Je-S Peer Review. If you have been asked to write an independent review for an STFC Fellowship, please read our guidance notes (PDF - 24kB - link opens in a new window) and follow the link through Je-S to complete the review form.
Advanced fellowship applicants
Applicants may submit only one application to one institution. Applications should be submitted using the Je-S System (link opens in a new window).
Applications are particularly welcome from those seeking to resume a research career following a period of absence from active research. (Returners).
Applicants are advised to seek the backing of their proposed host department several weeks in advance of the closing date. STFC limits the number of applications that each department may submit, therefore early contact between applicants and host institutions is essential.
Departments will not be expected to exceed their STFC application limit.
The closing date for applications is 4.00pm on 13 October 2010.
