Advisory panels to PALS
Please Note: STFC has completed a consultation (link opens in a new window) regarding the advisory panels and will publish the results in due course.
Two standing advisory panels will report to STFC’s Science Committee for Physical and Life Sciences. These are:
- The Neutron Advisory Panel (NAP); and
- The Photon Advisory Panel (PAP)
STFC will support and organise one face to face meeting of each panel per year, but panel members are encouraged to self-organise additional meetings as they feel necessary.
Each panel will:
- Be responsible for drafting a roadmap of research opportunities for presentation and approval by PALS. The roadmap will be periodically updated.
- In delivering this objective, consult and interact with the community to ensure its views are canvassed and there is an appropriate and effective route for communication.
- Make an independent presentation to PALS on the relevant panel area in years in which an STFC Programmatic Review takes place, thereby providing community input to the programmatic review process.
- Provide advice on new areas of activity being proposed for the facilities.
- Provide advice on new facilities being proposed.
- Provide advice on the implications of increased or reduced funding in existing areas of activity.
- Provide advice on training requirements and opportunities to build capacity in key areas.
- Provide advice on any issues relating to facility access by the user community.
- Identify and comment on knowledge transfer opportunities where appropriate.
- Respond to other specific requests from PALS for advice as the need arises.
- Meet and report annually, and additionally as appropriate, to PALS.
Both advisory panels invited their communities to take part in an open consultation during summer 2009. View the advisory panel reports based on this consultation.
