STFC Organisational Review
The Government announced in its response to the Innovation Universities, Science and Skills Select Committee's recent report on the Science Budget Allocations that the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) had agreed to ministers' request that the Council conduct an organisational review in order to assess its overall effectiveness. This review will be the one of the first organisational reviews of DBIS delivery partners.
The review will cover strategy and planning, customer and stakeholder engagement, governance and monitoring and control, delivery, value for money and management of change. The review process will comprise both self-assessment and external scrutiny by a panel independent of the STFC. It is due to be completed by September 2008. The membership of the independent panel will be announced shortly.
The final outcome will provide STFC with an assessment of how best to develop its capability and organisation, and provide external scrutiny of the council’s management structure and processes including a number of initiatives the Council is already implementing.
In addition to the organisational review, the STFC is considering how it can consult and communicate more effectively with its stakeholders and make demonstrable improvements in these areas over the coming months.
Both the report of the organisational review and an STFC action plan in response to it will be published in due course. Interested parties may submit comments on the issues addressed by the organisational review through a web-based consultation that will be made available on the STFC website from midday on 25 June 2008.
