Dr Murray Gibson

Murray Gibson received his PhD in physics from the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University, in 1978. Following posts at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Centre, Bell Laboratories and the University of Illinois, Murray joined Argonne National Laboratory as Director of the Materials Science Division in 1998, where he is currently the Associate Laboratory Director for Scientific User Facilities and Director of the Advanced Photon Source.

His research interests are focused on the use of innovative electron diffraction techniques in the study of materials physics in thin films. Murray serves on a number of advisory panels, committees and boards and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Royal Microscopical Society. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2003.
