Our Structure

STFC Council

The Council, formed in April 2007, is the governing body and its members are appointed by the Minister for Science and Innovation. A number of advisory committees, including Science Board, provide advice to Council and the executive.

The Chief Executive

STFC's Chief Executive, Professor Keith Mason, provides overall leadership and is responsible for the management and performance of STFC. He chairs Executive Board and is responsible for setting STFC's direction and winning the support of external stakeholders for the vision of STFC as an enabler of world-class science with social and economic impact. He is STFC's Accounting Officer.

The Chief Operating Officer

Professor Richard Wade is STFC's Chief Operating Officer.  He is responsible for the overall operational management of STFC (including the Science Programmes, Facility Development and Operations, Knowledge Exchange and Corporate Services) and for delivering the STFC's mission. Richard is a Deputy Chief Executive and also Chair of Operations Board.

The Director of Campus Strategy

Professor Colin Whitehouse is Director of Campus Strategy. He is responsible for the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus (link opens in a new window) (HSIC) and the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus (link opens in a new window) (DSIC), which are a government priority. Colin is a Deputy Chief Executive and is Head of Daresbury Laboratory.
