Prof James Stirling
Professor Stirling is the Jacksonian Professor of Natural Philosophy and Head of Department in the Cavendish Laboratory (Department of Physics) at the University of Cambridge. He is an eminent theoretical particle physicist, and an internationally distinguished researcher in the field of phenomenology. He has also been author of some of the most highly cited papers in the physical sciences.
In 2000 he co-founded and was appointed first Director of the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology at Durham University, now an internationally recognised centre of excellence and national facility. In 2005 he was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at Durham, a post which he held for three years before moving to Cambridge to take up the Jacksonian Professorship in 2008. He was awarded a CBE in 2006 for services to science.
