Nuclear Physics

The Nuclear Physics Group (NPG) is led by Prof John Simpson.

The Nuclear Physics Group (link opens in a new window) at Daresbury Laboratory participates in and supports the UK's Nuclear Physics research programme supported by the STFC.

The NPG has specialist skills and provides expertise and co-ordination for the UK community in the areas of:

• Detector design and simulations
• Computing hardware (data acquisition systems)
• Electronics (digital; pulse processing; tracking)
• Software (data acquisition; general support for all UK groups)
• Whole system design
• Mechanical design and engineering (FEA, CAD)
• Project management
• Target preparation

The physicists in the group pursue internationally recognised research programmes.
