Security
The Security Futures theme deals with the challenges presented by constantly changing security threats, with a focus on homeland security and infrastructure resilience. The most challenging problems in the domain require broad multi-disciplinary approaches and close cooperation with a diverse stakeholder community.
The Security Futures theme currently concentrates on:
- Identification and development of technologies and systems to improve detection of people and contraband at portals;
- Detection and characterisation of explosives, chemical and biological agents and nuclear material;
- The setting up of a Security Futures Laboratory that will be accessible to STFC, Government Departments and agencies, academics and industry;
- Novel and technologies applicable to next generation defence systems.
