Security

The Security Futures theme deals with the challenges presented by constantly changing security threats, with a focus on homeland security and infrastructure resilience. The most challenging problems in the domain require broad multi-disciplinary approaches and close cooperation with a diverse stakeholder community.

The Security Futures theme currently concentrates on:

  1. Identification and development of technologies and systems to improve detection of people and contraband at portals;

  2. Detection and characterisation of explosives, chemical and biological agents and nuclear material;

  3. The setting up of a Security Futures Laboratory that will be accessible to STFC, Government Departments and agencies, academics and industry;

  4. Novel and technologies applicable to next generation defence systems.
