Instrumentation for light sources
To be held on 19th November 2009
at One Great George Street, Westminster, London
The STFC Innovations Club and the Sensors & Instrumentation Knowledge Transfer Network are hosting an event on instrumentation for Light Sources.
Light Source facilities represent a significant commercial, technological and scientific opportunity. There are major new and upgraded light sources at various stages of design and development around the world, many of which require advances in instrument technology to be realised.
The UK’s Synchrotron Radiation Source played an important role in the growth of synchrotron radiation science. Since then, the UK has been a major player in the outstanding success of other international light source facilities. The Diamond light source is an exemplar of the possibilities for new 3rd generation sources, and the UK community is poised to benefit from new, well built sources.
Light sources at research facilities can range from synchrotrons, free electron lasers, X-ray sources and even (at laboratory instrument level) electron microscopes. Although the number of the larger-scale facilities is small, the industry surrounding them is well established and has clear links with laboratory instrumentation. Neutron sources also use much of the same instrumentation as light sources. The construction of new instruments at next-generation neutron sources like ISIS Target Station 2, offers further opportunities for industry.
This meeting aims to bring together manufacturers, researchers and academics with interests in light source instrumentation. We will also explore new opportunities for potential sales, collaboration and knowledge transfer.
